Alumni Data Science Stories

UBC Master of Data Science graduates are putting their education into practice, working as data scientists across a wide range of industry sectors. Here are just a few of their stories:

Parveen – Transportation Planner for TransLink

Parveen had a desire to work in the public sector, which led her to her current position at TransLink. Today, she applies the knowledge and skills she gained through the Master of Data Science program to real-world problems, and is able to see the positive impact of her work on transit across the Lower Mainland.

Matt – Data Scientist for Imbellus

What set UBC’s Master of Data Science apart for Matt was the program’s 10-month, accelerated structure. The full-time, intensive course curriculum and capstone project gave him the immediate skills needed to secure a position in the education technology field without requiring an extended absence from the workforce.

Nada – Data Scientist for Microsoft

With a degree in business administration and experience in management consulting, Nada was already using data analysis to help her clients. Aware of the incredible demand for data scientists, however, Nada sought to expand her skill set through UBC’s Master of Data Science. Currently working as a Data Scientist for Microsoft, Nada says she would recommend this program to anyone looking to launch a successful data science career.

Vaghul – Data Scientist at HSBC

With demand for data scientists on the rise, Vaghul decided it was time to pursue his passion. He applied to the UBC Master of Data Science program at UBC Okanagan because of its smaller cohort size, and customization to students. He felt he’d be motivated by learning what he could achieve in the field of data science, and how this would contribute to society.

Kira – Financial Data Analyst at Mattamy Homes

For Kira, the capstone project was an important experience of the Master of Data Science program at UBC Okanagan. Her project was the first step into the real world of data science, and gave her the opportunity to implement what she’d been taught and produce actual results, whether they were expected or not.
